Just in time for Valentine’s Day, an interactive installation is lighting up New York’s Times Square with its ability to measure love.
The 3m tall installation is made of 400 transparent acrylic tubes lit by LED lights that form a heart-shape in the centre. The transparent tubes work to refract lights from surrounding Times Square, which in turn light the central heart. As people approach and touch a sensor, the heart will grow even brighter and beat faster, as energy from their hands is converted into light.
‘The heart reflects what Times Square is made of: people and light - the more people, the stronger the light,’ syas architect Bjarke Ingels of BIG.
